The Nerdy Girlie: What is your 1st nerd memory?
Liz: For as long as I can remember, I was a very studious child. I loved reading and writing the equivalent of kiddie fan fiction for like, Amelia Bedelia and Carmen San Diego. My first specific memory is back when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade, I pestered my parents to help me figure out when I would be able to see aurora borealis from our house… and indeed, I still know what time of year to head home to see it.
TNG: How and why did you start blogging?
Liz: Back in the winter of 2009, I was planning a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with my boyfriend and my brother. When I talked about my plans at work, my colleagues kept asking if I had kids or siblings or nieces or nephews who wanted to go. I thought it was so weird that I had to essentially defend my choice to go as a grown ass person and I thought, there HAS to be other ladies who wear a suit and heels to work and who want to drink a Butterbeer for fun and play too. So after I got back in 2010, I started the blog.
TNG: YOUR favorite blog read?
Liz: Oh goodness, picking one is painful for me. So I have to pick a few based on the happiness they bring me.
io9 or The Mary Sue for my nerd news.
The Stylish Geek for fashion inspiration I can afford.
The Man Repeller for fashion inspiration I can't afford.
Gala Darling for a self-esteem boost.
Marie Forleo for business advice.
Design Tripper for obsessing about travel.
Neil Gaiman's Journal for writing advice.
TNG: What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Liz: Right now, I'm downright obsessive about Doctor Who. I almost got myself in fisticuffs at a party last weekend because I was defending Steven Moffat's approach to the series, so yeah, that's kind of my thing at the moment. But over the course of my lifetime, I've been a huge reader and I love mysteries and dystopia and sci fi, so at any given moment I can be pretty transfixed by the works of Arthur Conan Doyle or Margaret Atwood or Ray Bradbury.
TNG: Any tips for San Diego Comic Con?
Liz: I'm going for the first time this year. (I know, for shame!) But I've been told the key is water and power bars.
TNG: Girlie things you love?
Liz: I LOVE a great handbag. I have a sick love of a good moisturizer. Josie Maran's argan oil stick just feels so lovely on my dry Midwestern skin. Also, statement jewelry. Big earrings. Big necklaces. Vintage or new. I love me some crazy bling.
A HUGE thank you to Liz for taking time to answer some questions for us. It has been so great getting to know my nerd girls better and finding out we have so many things in common! Can't wait to see you at your very 1st Comic Con this year!!! Make sure you go follow her on Twitter: @lizgiorgi and check out her AMAZING blog, Being Geek Chic!
