My name is Andrea, but Twitter knows me as Nerd Queen, and my friends occasionally call me Ms. Howlett. I’m just a fangirl who loves to find other fans to converse with, that’s why I spend so much time on the internet. I read comics, love to game, and am into pretty much any genre entertainment.
The Nerdy Girlie: What is your 1st nerd memory?
Andrea: Well, I was 8 years-old and came across a lawn sale in my neighborhood when I saw two comics for sale. I ran home and asked my mother for some money to buy them. She gave me enough change to choose one of them. So I ran back, afraid that someone else would snatch up my treasure, and was thrilled to have my choice. I carefully picked What If Wolverine Was Lord Of The Vampires? and went back home to read it. It was my first ever comic book, and it started my love affair with not only comics, but solidified my Wolverine obsession as well. 22 years later, I’m still a Marvel, and Wolverine fan girl, and have picked up many other nerdy vices along the way.
TNG: How and why did you start blogging?
Andrea: My friend Andrew Uys is president of UysFaber Inc, and after working with UysFaber at the Montreal Comic Con, I contributed a short blog about my experience to uysfaber.com. When he received my blog, Andrew asked if I would be interested in regularly contributing content. I was very excited to do so. I started by writing reviews, then I created and wrote an origin story for a character in UysFaber’s Totem Sacred universe. I find blogging to be really fun and rewarding and am always looking for my next blog topic!
TNG: YOUR favorite blog read?
Andrea: I can spend days online, just browsing and reading. Some of my favorite blogs are Nerdist, io9, The Mary Sue, Temptalia, and of course The Nerdy Girlie!
TNG: What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Andrea: I love to nerd out about comics and video games. Anything and everything Wolverine makes me squee. I’m also a huge Tolkien and Halo fan, and watch Star Trek, Game Of Thrones, and Doctor Who religiously. I’m into a lot of different fandoms, but those are the ones that get most of my time and energy.
TNG: Any tips for San Diego Comic Con?
Andrea: A good tip for any con is to have a plan. Figure out which panels you want to see, and which signings you can’t miss, then be systematic. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed, or to try to fit in too much. You have to prioritize or you can burn yourself out. Especially at a Con as big as San Diego!
TNG: Girlie things you love?
Andrea: I may love Wolverine, and play too many first-person shooters, but I really am a girlie-girl. I’m a make-up junkie and spend a lot of time on make-up blogs. I also enjoy fashion, although I’m not much of a trend follower, I have my look and I stick with it. My girliest vice might be animals, there’s nothing like watching a video of Maru the cat when I feel down to cheer me up.
Andrea thank you so much for answering our questions! I am in LOVE with your origan story, such a sweet beginning to a life long love! Catch up with The Nerd Queen on Twitter at: @_Nerd_Queen_ and her blog: UysFaber.
