The Nerdy Girlie: What is your 1st nerd memory?
Sarah: As the youngest in the family, I remember playing with my older sibling's toys and having a huge imagination. My favorites were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Rainbow Brite. I was also really attached to my Minnie Mouse plushie and can be seen dancing around with her like a maniac in home videos. I played A LOT of Commander Keen and Chip's Challenge as well.
TNG: How and why did you start being crafty?
Sarah: I have been crafting and creating for as long as I can remember. Drawing little animals with corresponding poems was a daily, childhood occurance. I learned to hand stitch and use a sewing machine early on, though the Curious George pajama pants I made in middle school were a bit wonky. My family has always been supportive of being creative, so it feels most natural.
TNG: When and why did you decide to start your own Etsy shop?
Sarah: In 2012, my Grandma gave me an entire case of embroidery thread and hoops, and that's when the nerdy brainstorming began. I wanted to make items that people would relate to and be a childlike inspiration for adults. It seemed fitting that I stitch characters and pop-culture references from my favorite games and shows. I started with Yoshi and made as many cross stitch pins and necklaces as I could. I opened my Etsy shop soon after and could not be more excited with where it's brought me.
TNG: YOUR favorite Etsy shop?
Sarah: There are so many, but right now...Animal Crew! He makes the most adorable and dapper animal prints. I couldn't resist Mr. Fox with his tie and recently got Harry Hedgehog too. They are vibrant and detailed and make me smile whenever I see them.
TNG: What is your favorite thing/things to nerd out about?
Sarah: I am a big Disney nerd. I daydream of flying to Never Never Land with Peter Pan, and Disney songs are played at our house all the time. My New Year's Resolution should really be to get a Disneyland Annual Pass.
Music is also a big part of my life. I love having a record playing at home and going to shows even more. I recently saw The Postal Service for their 10th anniversary tour, and it was hands down one of my favorite shows of all time. I was giddy the whole night.
TNG: Girlie things you love?
Sarah: Definitely dresses and vintage jewelry. They are so beautiful, and I enjoy pairing dresses with fun shoes, tights, and nerdy pins. Along those lines, I'd have to say the most girlie thing I love is the movie Pretty in Pink. Andie Walsh is a geeky role model for me!
