With age I have found myself being more calm and collected when things I am super excited about unfold. I still have ALL the feels but I can control them better, mentally. My body on the other hand understands what I am trying to keep inside and always reminds me what I am really feeling.
Before driving over to The 1975 concert Thursday afternoon, my friend and I hit up California Donuts and I couldn't even LOOK at them. YES. I didn't even eat one or buy one! That is how you know I'm nervous. Luckily we had plenty of time to sight-see in Hollywood, shop Amoeba Records and eat a nice calming dinner before entering the madness that is a The 1975 show.
We arrived at the venue around 1:30pm and girls were already queued up. If my friend wasn't there and if I didn't have a photo pass, I would have been one of them, but when the time came for The 1975 to hit the stage, I was glad I wasn't one of them. The sold out house was squished right to the front of the rails. Girls were pulled from the pit crying. Yup.
I held myself together and shot the first three songs of the set, though let myself fangirl a smig when I asked another photographer to take my picture in front of the stage. I even got this awesome story out of it:
While shooting elbows on the stage, Matty ends up slapping me in the face with one of his chords, I flinch for a millisecond but never stop shooting. He quickly realizes what he has done and bends down to where I am and blows me a kiss. Still shooting while dying inside. LOL
I was relieved when the first three songs ended: The City…and two others I was too much in the zone to release. I ran over to check my cameras and head to the back of the house where my friend held me a great spot in view of the entire stage. We were lucky to be next to some great fangirls.
Usually at a show I close my eyes and just dance, this time I made myself keep my eyes open and soak in every moment. I even got The Gamer Geek on FaceTime! It took a while to get the connection but I got a hold of him just in time for his favorite song Settle Down.
I loved every moment but I let myself totally lose it over Girls, Chocolate and the very last and my favorite song Sex. I full on jumped up and down, screamed at the top of my lungs and all the while my long time friend was by my side which made it even more special. She is the exact opposite with her feelings so I'm sure we are quite the pair to observe together.
After listening to The 1975 every single day since May of this year, the show was more than I ever thought it could be and that is because I have one special person to thank for helping me acquire the photo badge, she knows who she is! The only thing that could have made it better would have been The Gamer Geek by my side…next year!

These pictures are awesome! I work at a music venue and shoot quite a few shows each year. It's so hard to ride the line of fangirl and photographer! I was DYING while taking pictures of Paramore. Super jealous you got to see The 1975! They're going to be in Atlanta on Saturday and since we're in SC visiting family, I'd love to go!

Your Matty story is amazing! They put on such a fantastic show! Each time I've seen them I find myself more and more in love. I'm glad you got to experience both sides of shooting a show, but still properly fangirling and enjoying yourself to the fullest!
