Life is tough. Can I get an AMEN?!
I’ve been in Denver for now for almost five months. I’ve switched jobs a couple times and went on vacation back to LA. Both of those things have kept me feeling unsettled. It is only in this month of June am I finally starting to feel like Denver is finally my home.
Here are five ways I’m finding my place in this thing we call adulting and how you can too!
1. Finding a job you love. Easier said than done. I found a job straight away when I moved to Denver at the end of January. I started, but quickly found out it wasn’t for me. There was no routine, creativity and the hours were killing me.
Soon I began searching for something new. A place I could love, people I could love and be happy with the work I was creating. That is when I found Bloom Portraits. I’ve had a lot of luck finding jobs on Craig’s List and this time was no different.
Bloom Portraits has given me a routine, a creative atmosphere, awesome co-workers and most importantly has grown my photography skills more than ever. I am constantly learning new things, creating images I am proud of and growing as a creative person. I am so happy to now be settled into a place I love and with people I love.
That first job you find may not be your forever home. Just remember to always be searching, keep trying to make your self better everyday and soon the right job will come along at the right time. Never give up.
2. Finding a routine. Now that I have a job I love that is Tuesday to Saturday 9-6. I can set a routine for myself. I always feel more comfortable with a routine. I know my work schedule at Bloom Portraits and I can schedule the rest of my life from there.
Are you all a creature of habit? I love knowing what the day has in store for me, what I need to accomplish that day and what fun things I have coming up in the weeks and months ahead. I am defiantly a planner!
3. Making time for friends. When I was married, I hardly made time for friends. When you are married you have a built in best friend. I got lost in that and let my other relationships fall by the way side. It took me ending that relationship to help me find the friendships that really matter and make me want to nurture.
Every week I try to make time for at least one friend. Not including Ocean Eyes. We try to see each other as much as possible. But what I told Being Geek Chic before I even got into a new relationship was that I didn’t want to ever forget the friends who got me through my divorce. So wether it is a lunch time phone call, texts or brunch, my friends will continue to be a top priority in my life.
4. Discover your city. Since moving to Denver, I have found a few neighborhoods that I absolutely adore. They were all introduced to be through the people I love. Bloom Portraits is in the Highlands. Ocean Eyes is near RiNo and Being Geek Chic is on S. Broadway.
Each neighborhood has adorable shops, restaurants and is completely walkable. I love finding new hidden gems and making them my own. During my lunches at Bloom Portraits, I found the best little vintage shop {pictured above} and a park {pictured below}, RiNo has some super fun and hip bars and restaurants and S. Broadway is a thrifters paradise. Explore your city and find the neighborhoods and places that make you feel at home!
5. Making time for yourself. Even though I love making time for my friends, I’ve discovered in the past view weeks, that I need to make time for myself too. After a long day of work, one of the best feelings is heading home to my apartment. I arrive home and begin getting everything ready for the following day, making dinner, putting on my pjs and writing in bed. If I’m being honest, I’ve let my writing fall by the way side. I’ve made a bit of time during lunches, but that is hardly enough time to get into any sort of groove. I need to set aside me time to do this. Scheduling me time should be just like scheduling friend or date time! Add that to your calendar!

I completely agree with all of the above! Making time for friends really is so important. It's something that can slip so easily when you're in a relationship, especially when you live together, and is so worth making the time for.
Yes to all of this! You time and friend time is just so important <3
I'm happy you found a job that works for you. Making time for friends is so important. As you said when you're married, you have your bestie there so sometimes other friendships aren't tended to as much. All great tips.
Thank you so much Desiree! xx
Thank you Danielle! Great friends are worth it! xx
