A few days before I left LA I met an amazing and brilliant nerd women. Her name is Maytal and she runs a comic publishing company called Emet Comics. All the comics are written and illustrated by women!
To get the word out on these amazing women and their creations, I've read all six of their comics and wanted to tell you a little bit about each one! Spoiler Alert...they are all BRILLIANT!!
1. The Wendy Project by Melissa Jane Osborne illustrated by Veronica Fish. A modern day interpretation of Peter Pan. A heartbreaking story...with small touches of happiness to carry you through. Haunting art with flashes of brilliant color.
2. Inside The Loop by Cindy Tobisman, illustrated by Lynne Yoshii. Dystopian adventure! Exciting and leaves you wanting more!
3. Helena Rose: An Intergalactic Fairy Tale by E.O. Levendorf and Sonia Liao. Right away I fell in love with the art and color. I love the simplicity! The story is gorgeous with tons of feels which is right up my alley as well! Cannot wait to follow this beautiful space odyssey!
4. Romeo & Juliet and Guns by Emily Dell, illustrated by Mollie Helms. I am already a huge fan of Shakespeare so I knew this comic would be right up my alley and it was. The story is different with gorgeous art and characters. The Shakespearean element is strung through the story but made new and exiting in its own way.
5. Finding Molly An Adventure in Cat-sitting by Justine Prado, illustrated by Jenn St-Onge. Cats?! Yes please! A creative artist living in LA, struggling with what she wants to do with her life and still living with her parents. That hit super close to home! Lovely art, gorgeous color and compelling story. Cannot wait to see where the story and character goes while following her dreams.
6. Zana by Jen Barker, illustrated by Joey Granger. Set in future South Africa sets two village girls on dangerous journey after contacting an angry ancestor ancestor. Zana’s story is surrounded by art that makes you feel like you are living the journey yourself.
Together we can continue to build a community of female creators and foster lasting relationships with each other! Follow them on Twitter: @Emetcomics and purchase the bundle of 6 comics for only $25!!
