In the past 18 months I have done a lot of work on myself and for myself. And guess what?! I am more happier today than I have ever been in my entire life. Along with my friends and family, the self care items below have contributed to an amazing quality of life that I am excited to share!
1. Taking a break. I have always been bad at taking breaks. I love being productive, multi tasking and helping others. When I started my new job back in July I made a promise to myself. I added in a reoccurring hour lunch break each day to my calendar where I go outside for either a walk or run to the park or I call someone. It has been so helpful to take that time away from screens and move my body.
2. Saying no. I am working on this for NO-vember and it was a great thing to put into practice for me as an Enneagram 2 // The Helper. I'm starting with easy nos, emails (unsubscribe) and working on saying no last minute dates (not a fan) and everything in between.
3. Therapy. I've been doing this since February of 2020 and I am so happy. Every session I feel more and more like the person I want to be. I found mine through Sonder Mind. You can use your insurance and we have been meeting mostly virtually since we started. I highly recommend!!
4. Setting boundaries. This is a tough one for me, but after practicing with some past dates with good results, it is becoming easier and easier. If I am having a tough time setting a boundary, I will take 10 minutes to meditate on my anxiety. It gives me time to think about what is important to me and why it is important to let people know. So far it has worked well!
5. Asking for what you need. This one is hard for me. But again asking and putting myself out there has made all the difference. When I moved into my new place back in July. The Music Maven, asked if I wanted help. I started off saying no but then said yes. It made the day go so much smoother and I was happy to have support during a stressful moment. Plus house came together so much more quickly!
6. Getting a full night's sleep. I've always been pretty good with my sleep schedule. But during the summer I realized that I was sleeping a lot, napping during the day and sleeping 9PM to 7AM. I always felt tired. I recently adjusted to 10PM to 6AM and added in Vitamin B and cut down to one cup of coffee a day. I am feeling so much more awake and not tired at all during the day. It has been a game changer!
7. Dailyo App. I have been using this for 290 days straight (thanks Steph!) and it is a great way to track moods and small habits to make sure you are staying self aware of what you want to integrate into your life. It helped me with flossing! LOL
None of these things came all at once. It has been progress to work them into my life and I will always continue to work on them, myself to keep growing and learning + taking care of myself in a kind way. Which ones are you going to try? Do you have any that make you happy? Share them in the comments below!
