100 Cups Of Coffee is my journey through divorce, dating & self-discovery.
My single journey began in 2015 when I decided to leave my husband & again when Ocean Eyes broke up with me in May 2020. It all feels like forever ago. The ghosts of a life in transition.
The days since have brought all the self-love. I'm proud of where I am, guided by therapy, and a newfound self-awareness, boundaries in place. May the odds be ever in my favor.
Can Megan fall in love in 3 sentences? Is Pisces a fish?! ♓️
Here we go! I comment on his profile prompt, "My biggest date fail" On the left is his response. I'm proud of my punny reply! His sentence 2, I get a laugh!
and sentence 3 our inside joke is solidified! As I parked my car for our first date, I feel at ease. Walking up to the bar's door, I hear my name from behind, I turn to see The Author. We hug and I joke about him coming drunk from his holiday party (he wasn't!). It already feels like a typical exchange, not our first.
The hostess shows us to our bar top seats, he places a hand on my lower back guiding me ahead of him. I order my regular malbecπ· and it turns out he is an expert on all things wine. He follows suite with my selection. I must be doing something right!
The atmosphere has a low hum of voices, the are lights dim and warm. Fleetwood Mac's Dreams plays over the record player setting the scene for swoons. We face each other on the barstools, legs in between each others, enough space to invoke suspense.
While we wait for our drinks, he jumps into the tough questions, which I love. What are you looking for? Relationships, dating, family. I notice how at ease my body feels as the conversation flows naturally. I love how admiringly he speaks of his father who passed years ago and how he and his mother are dating simultaneously. Vulnerability is one of my prized attributes and it is always a gift to see it in others.
The night progresses on and I find out he is friends with the bartender. We were able to try one of the off menu malbecs! #VIPs Three hours pass like no time at all and he suggests we continue the night elsewhere. I pass on heading to his apartment, instead he suggests:
"Let's make out in this vestibule."
Guiding me into the dark corner, we laugh, kiss and I melt. We walk to my car for another quick kiss and he wishes me safe travels home.
Snug in bed, alone, I send him a text: Thank you for the drinks & such a fun time! I look forward to doing it again! π₯
In the morning he replies: I had a lovely time as well. Talk soon!
We never do.
Lesson: It is ok to get excited about a first date. Put yourself out there, but be true to your boundaries.
Soundtrack: I Melt With You
